Just Say No to Eggplant!

Of all the vegetables at salad school, there was no one quite like Eggplant.

Radish, Cucumber, Lettuce, Turnip, Pea, Carrot, Asparagus, Brussels Sprouts, Corn, and Celery were all friends and played well together. But Eggplant just never fit in very well.

He was big, kind of roundish, and purple. The other young vegetables were fit and firm. But Eggplant was kind of squishy, and didn’t fit in well with anyone.

At salad school, all the vegetables would play together and see what they could become, and how they could fit in at the dinner table.

Lettuce, carrots, onions, and radish could get dressed up and make a fine salad. But Eggplant would just ruin everything. Just say no to Eggplant!

Corn, broccoli, and asparagus could get steamed and be fine anywhere. But Eggplant didn’t do well with steam. Just say no to Eggplant!

Corn and lima beans could get together and play succotash. But not Eggplant β€” he would just spoil everything. Just say no to Eggplant!

Pea was the most popular. She could do anything, by herself, or with salad, or steamed, or with succotash. But not Eggplant. Just say no to Eggplant!

One day, Eggplant decided that the only way he was ever going to get invited to dinner was if he hid. So he decided he would disguise himself.

First, he rolled himself in egg and flour. Then he got grilled until he was firm instead of squishy. Then he wrapped himself in cheese. Finally, he covered himself with tomato sauce, so no one could ever tell that he was purple.

When the other vegetables saw him, they thought he was someone new coming to the table. He was the fanciest of all the vegetables. They even called him a β€œmain dish!”

Eggplant was so happy that he was finally accepted, and was no longer tossed a-side. He even blushed a little.

Just say yes to Eggplant β€” sometimes.

The End
